Silverfish (Ctenolepisma Longicaudata)

Capable of thriving in most climates, silverfish prefer to dwell in dark, damp areas such as basements, attics, kitchens and bathrooms. They are especially attracted to paper and damp clothing. Commonly found in stored boxes in garages and sheds.

And once they are inside your premises it’s very easy for them to find food and a sweet spot to live and spread. Perfect spots for them are moist and warm. They will live in cracks on the wall, especially if there’s wallpaper nearby they can feed on.

Their favourite food is starch, cellulose and sugar so they might turn up in books, wallpaper, carpets and food; such as coffee, sugar, pasta and other leftover food. They are a bluey, grey colour with a tapered body and no wings. And they are quite easy to spot even though they are only 1 to 2 cm long.

As a rule it is often necessary to apply a combination of chemical treatments to achieve effective levels of control. Call us now for further assistance.
